JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the prompt daily oversight, care, and maintenance of the physical property (non-horticultural areas) of the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden (including Exploration Center, Café, all restrooms and all storage facilities, to include mechanical and electrical rooms, and the parking garage.) Assist in other garden areas as requested. Supervise and oversee work activity of supervisory and janitorial staff to provide clean, neat, safe facilities and services to staff and guests visiting the garden. Contribute to the overall team effort.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: •Directly supervise personnel to assure the successful maintenance, cleanliness, and security of the Children’s Garden, the Café, the Parking Garage, and proximity: •Assure that a daily walkthrough is conducted according to schedule of all areas and buildings to assure cleanliness and readiness for the day; perform a weekly walkthrough of all storage rooms and exhibits to assure that the Arboretum’s property is safely maintained and storage areas organized. •Periodically visually inspect the areas for cleanliness, structural soundness and safety hazards with the goal being the guest experience; issue and coordinate completion of work orders for items arising from visual inspections or as assigned by director. •Monitor and schedule all routine facility maintenance, including PM contracts, according to budget and with approval from supervisor; coordinate special projects and contractors and services as directed. •Timely review and log all facility maintenance, keeping records for tracking and appropriate account coding and expense control as well as inventory controls. •Respond to emergency situations, i.e. weather, power outages, plumbing or electrical issues in an appropriate and timely manner; resolve minor problems. •Ensure that public rules and regulations are enforced according to established guidelines and garden etiquette for both staff and the public; promptly and appropriately address public needs/emergencies. •Work with director in budget preparation; timely process invoices with appropriate expense coding. •Maintain positive relationship with Education, Volunteer, Horticulture and Public Program staff working within the Children’s Garden
•Act as Manager on Duty when needed to assure the Arboretum is ready for the public and appropriately respond as needed to public; prepare a weekend report of significant activity for review and appropriate follow up. •During major events assist with the execution of the event as needed. •Effectively evaluate/ manage/schedule personnel; complete required personnel documentation in a timely manner; train staff and actively participate in and conduct staff and guest safety and security practices.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s degree desired. • 4+ years in facility management preferred, with 2 years supervisory experience and janitorial oversight helpful. • 2 years’ experience in mechanical, plumbing, and electrical repair desirable. • Good verbal and good written communication skills; good computer skills • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights/weekends as needed and ability to respond to emergencies at any point. • Lift up to 30 pounds, climb ladders and stairs; walk, bend, twist and stand as needed throughout the day. • Driver’s license to drive garden vehicles.

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a 66 acre changeable display garden located on the shores of White Rock Lake in east Dallas, TX. We have over 1m visitors a year and offer a variety of experiences for our guests--seasonal displays, activities and exhibits, rental facilities for weddings, receptions, and meetings, educational opportunities for children, concerts, and a one-of-a kind ou...tdoor children's exploration garden. We are a non-profit organization and open to the public all but three days per year.
