The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for a Guest Services Manager for the Student Union Activities & Recreation department. This is a full-time, permanent staff position.
Purpose of the Position: As the Guest Services Manager for Student Activity Center and Venue Management, this position is one of the primary points of contact with guests and student staff and as such, is responsible for providing a high quality experience for all. S/he hires, trains, motivates, and supervises 30+ students annually to provide superior customer service, control access, and to oversee daily activity in the facility. S/he serves as the administrator on duty during (non-event) evening hours.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of administrative or office management experience in the student services or related field; or equivalent.
Essential Job Duties: Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate large number of student staff and one SHRA staff. Oversee facility use and access, including providing evening and weekend supervision as needed. Complete staff scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage for all operating hours of the Student Activity Center and student event staff coverage. Provide event support. Ensure safety and security of guests, staff, and facilities. Provide excellent customer service. Alternate as manager on duty for events. Develops student and program learning outcomes for the student staff, assisting other staff supervisors as needed during the development process. Designs and implements a comprehensive student staff leadership development program for the student staff hired annually. Engage in the success of all team members. Complete monthly payroll for student employees, tracking expenses to ensure annual expenditures are consistent with approved budget. Assist at football stadium events. Design and implement an assessment process to evaluate the work place related growth of our student employees in order to determine the effectiveness of our training model. Maintain Shift Planning (Humanity) SAC&VM site, a web-based scheduling and communication tool for student employees. Serve as the department liaison for Shiftplanning.com. Train all Student Building Managers in First Aid/CPR; train full-time staff as requested.
Preferred Qualifications: A master's degree in higher education or event management and two years' experience in the area of student affairs, event management, or other related field. Demonstrated ability to operate in a work environment with limited supervision and to function in an independent manner. Strong background in customer service, safety, and student environment. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with, supervise, and lead a diverse population. Position requires patience and adaptability to frequent changes for which to schedule student staff.
