Assistant Athletic Director, Event Sales The University of Delaware Newark, Delaware
The Assistant Athletic Director of Event Sales (Asst AD, Event Sales) at the University of Delaware is a valued member within the University and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services (DIARS), upholding and embracing the departmental mission of “Inspiring Greatness Together.”
The Asst AD, Event Sales reports to the Associate Athletic Director for Sales & Service and has primary responsibility of the administration and management of the sales/rental of all the athletic facilities.
Recruit and attract local, regional, and national events to UD’s first-rate athletics facilities, including sporting events, trade shows, concerts, commencement exercises, banquets, corporate events, and youth and high school championships.
Strategically build partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders on campus (Auxiliary Services, UD Dining, etc.) as well as external entities (promoters, local media, community business leaders, etc.) to help book and attract events to Delaware Athletics facilities.
Manage the athletic facilities for revenue generation, community engagement and event experience to enhance the University of Delaware Athletic Department and Facilities brand awareness.
Create and execute an athletic rental marketing plan focused on all the athletic facilities.
Manage all internal/external rental clients as it relates to event negotiations, contracts, pre/post operational meetings and financial settlement.
Manage the Bob Carpenter Center facility scheduling system.
Coordinate and communicate with internal departments regarding specific needs of all ticketed events (Development, External Relations, Business Operations, Event Operations, etc.).
Participate in event management for commencements, convocations, major entertainment and sporting events and University of Delaware home football/basketball games.
Daily interaction with Senior University Administration, University’s Building Maintenance and Operation’s, Grounds Services, Custodial Services, Auxiliary Services-Parking Services-Dinning Services-Office of Conferences, University Media Services, Police Department, Student Life, University Counsel, Risk Management, external clients, parents, alumni, fans, visiting institutions and general public.
Assist in selling space within Hospitality Village during football games; manage client needs for tent rentals and catering; assist with the development of Hospitality Village to increase attendance and revenue
Supervise of seasonal part-time staff and student workers.
Special projects as assigned by the Director of Athletics and Senior Associate Athletic Director’s.
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years of event sales, production and development, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to be creative in revenue generation opportunities.
Ability to train and supervise employees, including organization, prioritization and scheduling of work.
Advanced knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Discretion with respect to strategic and confidential material.
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for a wide variety of assignments.
Skill in personal computer use and software applications, including database, spreadsheet, presentation and word processing. Web familiarity and ability to enter and maintain documents.
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities, as well as fiscal management of an assigned budget.
Effective organizational and coordinating skills, including the ability to effectively manage time and schedules and foster a cooperative work environment.
Ability to work autonomously.
Excellent judgment in decision-making.
Strong interpersonal and effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Extensive holiday, night and weekend work required.
