The Director of Development directs and oversees all development operations for IU Auditorium for multiple campaigns, including major gifts, annual campaign, capital campaigns, planned giving, and student scholarship campaigns. This position is the senior level staff member responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies for the Auditorium. The Director of Development is directly responsible for maximizing funding sources through the solicitation and management of corporate sponsorships, creating and managing fundraising campaigns, and developing and cultivating new fundraising initiatives. This position is responsible for managing the budget for the development office, supervising the Donor Relations Manager, and initiating and maintaining strong relationships with donors, patrons, alumni, members of the general public, and university and corporate partners. Development goals are set in conjunction with IU Auditorium’s Managing Director and Executive Director, and the Assistant Provost for Strategic Campus Advancement.
The successful applicant will work well in multicultural teams, with diverse constituencies, and able to coordinate and collaborate with the other fundraisers and directors within the Arts and Humanities sphere and elsewhere on campus to solicit gifts. S/he will be self-motivated, work well under pressure, and be able to handle several projects at one time. S/he will have good judgment and strong diplomacy skills.
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree and five years of fundraising experience or related work in the performing arts, higher education, events and/or alumni relations.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills; excellent verbal communication and ability to participate in public speaking events. Demonstrated success delivering fundraising results across multiple outreach platforms. Strong leadership skills working with people, programs, and projects. Excellent written communication, research, and organizational skills. Proven ability to develop and manage budgets and prepare financial reports. Strong computer literacy. Interest, enthusiasm, and affinity for fundraising and working with people.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree or professional fundraising certification; supervisory experience and a background in the performing arts or higher education; fundraising experience in higher education and/or performing arts environment; experience with fundraising databases and ticketing systems.
This position will require travel regionally and nationally. Successful applicant must have availability to work some nights and weekends during performance season.
