DESCRIPTION: Under the direct supervision of the Events Coordinator-Sales and Services, the Events Specialist promotes the Mankato Verizon Center for meetings, banquets and conventions; coordinates and oversees events; and assists Events Coordinator-Sales and Services in booking events and servicing clients' event needs. Provides exceptional customer service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: •Assists the Events Coordinator - Sales and Services with event bookings and fulfillment. •Performs event coordination duties by meeting with clients, determining needs, assisting clients with event budgets and catering requirements, preparing event layouts, and coordinating room setups. •Oversees and assists with events in progress, resolves operational and procedural problems, reports any changes in original event requirements and adjusts billings accordingly. •Oversees and assists with all off-site civic center events including, but not limited to; RibFest, Vetter Stone Amphitheater Events, and MN Air Spectacular. •Assists with hiring and training Event Facilitators. •Assists with scheduling staff according to event needs. •Assists the Food and Beverage and Security department as necessary. •Maintains knowledge of, and follows proper protocol relating to alcohol-related procedures and liabilities. •Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers. •Performs the physical/mental demands and work environment requirements for this position. •Attendance during regularly scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary. •Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations and citizen customers.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: •Performs other related functions as assigned or apparent.
High School Diploma/GED; and demonstrated experience in event services management and /or sales and operations. Customer service experience required.
Bachelor's Degree in Events or Sports Management, Hospitality or Hotel Management, or related field. One year of event services management and/or sales and operations experience in related field.
Event logistics coordination experience.
Knowledge of food and alcohol related procedures and liabilities.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must be available to work normal office hours, plus various night, overnight, holiday, and weekend hours.
Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota.
Must successfully complete a background examination, and drug test.
Must possess a current cell phone or home phone number that can be accessed by building management personnel for contact purposes.
Must comply with City of Mankato and civic center policies and procedures.
Must comply with data practices policies and standards relative to not public data.
