The Department of Special Events Facilities at the University of Texas at Arlington is seeking a dynamic Director of Booking to join our team. In this newly created position, the director will drive new entertainment and public events for both our arena and performing arts center venues, establish and maintain relationships with regional and national promoters, and help further establish the venues as premier entertainment destinations in the Dallas-Fort Worth market.
Essential Duties Include: 1. Identify, market to, and secure new and repeat event opportunities and programming (concert, family, sporting, theatrical, corporate, etc.), including building and maintaining promoter and agent relationships in both the arena and performing arts entertainment industry. Assess the marketplace for event potential, negotiate venue contracts and maintain communication with promoters and agents throughout the planning and event process. 2. Administrative oversight of booking calendars for College Park Center and Texas Hall. Works closely with internal and external users to ensure dates for major University events, UTA Athletics events and Dallas Wings events are held. Receives and responds to inquiries for scheduling events in both venues in a timely manner. Responsible for efficient handoff of event details from the contracting phase to venue directors and other SEF partners. 3. Conducts analytical assessments of potential events and event forecasts to further develop effective business practices of yield management. Prepare statistics and reports on venue use for upper management. 4. Serves as a member of the Special Event Facilities upper administrative team to develop short- and long-term departmental initiatives and strategies for marketing the venues to promoters/agents/users and booking events. 5. Represents College Park Center/Special Event Facilities to campus and off-campus entities/groups, Intercollegiate Athletics, promoters, talent purveyors and venue tenants, fostering strong relationships and building customer base. 6. Represents the University of Texas at Arlington, the Department of Special Event Facilities and the College Park Center through active involvement in industry associations and conferences. 7. Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Entertainment Management, Business Administration or related field. Three (3) years of experience in venue sales and booking national touring acts/content in an arena, theater or multi-purpose venue or the equivalent experience. Thorough knowledge and understanding of entertainment and event booking in both arena and performing arts venues, including current trends in the live entertainment and sports industry, event risk assessment, identifying market opportunities for events, industry terminology and contract negotiation. Ability to work in a dynamic team environment. Excellent organizational, planning, communication and inter-personal skills.
Five (5) or more years of experience in venue sales and booking entertainment/sporting events for a multi-purpose venue, with at least three of those years at a senior level position within a venue. Industry involvement with IEBA, Pollstar, or related organizations.
