| POSITION CONCEPT The position is a unique opportunity for a dynamic leader with broad experience in cultural facility operations and guest experience management. The Vice President of Operations and Experience is the Senior Management Team member responsible for oversight of all operational functions for an organization that includes broad-based performing arts presenting from large-scale commercial shows to unique cultural arts events; museum programming in science, art and history; and interactive participatory programs. The expansive facilities include a 275,000 square foot, architecturally significant building that houses two theaters (1500 & 400 seat) and a four-story museum, as well as an off-site 90,000 square foot history center and several historic homes. The positon will oversee facilities, technical production, front of house and guest services, food & beverage operations and security. As Mid-Michigan’s leading institution in arts and culture, the Center seeks to enhance quality of life, the business environment and the artistic literacy of our core regional community. The position will be a key leader in innovative earned revenue growth, overseeing the opening of a new coffee shop within the Center, launching new retail ventures in food and beverage operations, and ensuring that guests receive high value. The Center expects to begin a capital campaign to make major renovations to the museum in the coming years, and the VP of Operations and Experience will be the lead for design and construction of the project. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Guest Experience & Operations Development
• Oversee the re-invention and on-going growth of the total guest experience as a central part of the patron relationship to the Center • Oversee the Facilities team • Lead or oversee efforts to ensure appropriate on-going maintenance and upkeep plans for the building and the technical equipment • Guide work on capital projects • Ensure proper safety policies, procedures and training are in place in regards to both back and front of house • Oversee the technical services department and all associated responsibilities related to theatre production, museum exhibitions and facility A/V • Be the organizational champion for the guest perspective • Ensure that the building and grounds are safe, useable and a place people want to be • Oversee front of house operations including all aspect of the guest experience including hospitality amenities, food & beverage operations, valet, and front and back of house services for ticketed, event, and performance-based guests. • Oversee facility rental program including setting policies and procedures and metrics for revenue and engagement • Foster an environment that promotes innovation and implementation of best practices to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs while increasing productivity. • Prepare and maintain required and necessary reports/records.
Leadership & Management
• Serve as a key executive leader on the Midland Center for the Arts team, providing guidance and setting an example for exemplary work ethic and program quality for the staff and the community. • Supervise and mentor staff in the Operations Departments, including recommending appropriate candidates for hire and ensuring organizational results are achieved within the areas. • Oversee and support the departments in budget development and realization of income and expense goals. • Attend all required staff and departmental meetings and work collaboratively with staff to ensure a strong team culture throughout the organization. • Support the President & CEO through attendance at meetings of the Board of Directors and its committees as requested. • Serve as a community liaison, promoting the Center and its programs to businesses, arts organizations, donors and other constituencies in the community, state and nation. • Collaborate with the Development and Marketing Departments to ensure successful fundraising and programmatic marketing. • Be an active member of the local community and state and regional arts and culture organizations in pursuit of the Center’s goals.
