The Director of Opry Programming and Artist Initiatives will manage programming and other show elements for the Grand Ole Opry as well as various artist initiatives for the Opry Entertainment Group. He or she will be responsible for maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with the artist community and the music business community as a whole.
Manage Opry talent lineup and other show elements to ensure that the Opry is engaging, entertaining, appealing and commercially successful.
Guide booking and scheduling of artists for Opry shows in conjunction with Senior Opry Talent Manager. Guide booking and scheduling of artists at Opry Entertainment Group clubs in conjunction with Talent Buyer.
Serve as a key on-site representative during Opry Shows, liaising with artists and their teams and ensuring that shows are produced successfully.
Act as an ambassador to the artist community, building artists’ involvement and relationships with the Opry.
Maintain strong relationships within the music business community (agents, managers, publishers, publicists, labels, etc.). Collaborate to develop opportunities for the Opry to serve as a meaningful partner in artist development plans (from emerging to established artists) and other industry initiatives.
Nurture robust knowledge and solid understanding of Country, Bluegrass, Americana and related genres including legendary artists, current mainstream/established artists and new/independent talent. Maintain knowledge of current industry trends. Regularly attend showcases, industry events, concerts – occasionally out of town.
Develop and implement creative programming and event concepts for the Opry.
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent communication and successful execution of all artist initiatives including show elements.
Participate in development and implementation of strategic plans for programming and artist initiatives throughout Opry Entertainment Group.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Music Business, Entertainment, Business, Communications or related field or equivalent experience
Minimum of seven years of progressive experience working within the country music industry (record label, artist management, publishing, PRO, booking agency, talent buyer, etc).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must be a team player with a consistently professional demeanor and the ability to work with all types of people
Excellent analytical and problem resolution skills with the ability to proactively recommend solutions
Must possess great attention to detail and accuracy with strong organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with differing deadlines
Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office
