SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for a Production Manager at the Navy Pier Facility. The Production Manager coordinates and supervises all technical, production and union labor related components of events for the Navy Pier Festival Hall Complex, and ensures service contractors’ compliance with all Complex work place rules and regulations by performing the following duties:MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:•Contracts, schedules and supervises union personnel and oversees efficient use of labor on site.•Coordinates, reviews and approves all Complex stagehand labor and payroll.•Performs technical responsibilities such as working directly with production staff of incoming events, estimating production costs and overseeing stage equipment needs. •Works with Event Managers to ensure fulfillment of contractual production requirements and communication with related Navy Pier and Complex Departments.•Studies technical riders, lighting plots, electrical requirements and rigging plots to assess feasibility and compliance with Complex rules & regulations and to protect the Complex’s structural integrity. Provides solutions which work to the benefit of the Complex and the client.•Manages the Complex’s in-house exclusive rigging program; coordinates rigging needs for Complex events.•Assists Event Managers in preparing client billings for all events and forwards to appropriate department.•Works with Director of Finance in preparing billings for internal, non-event related stagehand labor.•Maintains accurate event history which includes any billed labor, issues, or opportunities for future improvement of production efficiency. •Ensures service contractors are in compliance with all right of entry requirements including, but not limited to current liability insurance, current right of entry documentation, etc.; •Maintains and updates database of service contractors to monitor compliance accordingly.•Coordinates logistics of all lift rental equipment for Complex events.•Functions as primary liaison with the in-house A/V service contractor•Assists the Director of Event Management & Operations with ensuring Complex compliance with all labor contracts to which SMG and/or Navy Pier Inc. (NPI) are signatory.•Assists designated Safety Officer in coordinating safety training for Complex staff; Maintains OSHA logs and Altum programs for Complex in accordance with SMG protocol.•Prepares regular reports of all production related activities.•Analyzes Complex rates for labor, services and equipment (i.e. internet, lift rentals, rigging, stagehands, etc.…) in relation to the competitive set and recommends modifications as necessary.•Reviews annual union labor rate increases and ensures end user pricing structure reflects annual increases in hard costs.•Participates in the development and administration of the Complex’s annual operating budget, capital improvement plan and preventative maintenance plan for production related items and projects.•Functions as union labor and production liaison for NPI Entertainment produced events as requested.•Performs other job related duties as assigned.
H.S. diploma or equivalent required
Minimum of five (5) years related experience
Proven, working knowledge of event production including lighting, sound, rigging, electrical, etc., with emphasis on the presentation of large-scale live entertainment and corporate event productions
Must have prior experience working with union labor and interpreting union contracts
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to read and manipulate CAD drawings
Ability to work with and maintain highly confidential information
Ability to work with a variety of vested interest groups and to foster a cooperative environment
Ability to anticipate challenges and implement effective solutions.
Ability to perform well under pressure typically associated with demands of the entertainment industry
Ability and willingness to work long hours and a varied schedule including nights, weekends and holidays
Strong orientation towards customer service for the meeting, convention and entertainment industry
Must have professional attitude and appearance
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Familiarity with EBMS or other event booking and management software programs is desirable.
