Manages the Changeover and Housekeeping Department of Hampton Coliseum/Hampton Arts to ensure all event-related changeover and housekeeping requirements are met. Supervises crews of skilled and semi-skilled workers.
Examples of Work:
Plans and directs the work of crews in the changeover and set up of the Hampton Coliseum, the American Theatre, and Charles H. Taylor Arts Center for all events; coordinates and plans with other departments to ensure all set up requirements are met.
Plans and directs the general housekeeping and maintenance activities of the Hampton Coliseum, the American Theatre, and Charles H. Taylor Arts Center. Schedules building cleaning in between shows; determines staffing levels to complete tasks in specified time frame.Supervises and schedules 24-hour security person. Responsible for keeping building secured on non-event days by guarding open doors and ensuring closed doors are locked.Determines set-up for each event in coordination with other departments, the extent of changeover required, and staffing necessary to complete the changeover and housekeeping in between the move-out of one and move-in of the next eventPerforms administrative duties including scheduling, ordering supplies and equipment, filling out time sheets, and completing a variety of forms and reports.See City of Hampton, VA website for full description and to apply. Graduation from high School or successful completion of a GED; three (3) years of experience in changeover or housekeeping management or closely related experience. One (1) year of supervisory experience required. Experience working in an arena setting is preferred. Skilled in the use of a computer and experience in using Excel and Word. Must have thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and materials used in arena operations and maintenance; knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to building maintenance work; ability to interpret oral and written instructions; ability to plan and schedule work and supervise personnel; ability to establish and maintain good working relationships. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. Any person offered employment with the City in this position shall be required to successfully pass testing for controlled substances.
Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, and/or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs in the repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools. Examples of equipment used include forklift, automobile and scrubber.
Hampton Coliseum/Hampton Arts is a multi venue department which includes Hampton Coliseum - a 12,000 seat arena, The American Theatre - a 400 seat performing arts center, and The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center - a visual arts gallery and instruction studio.
