The Manager, Plant Operations ensures the efficient and cost-effective operation of the facility. Key responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day ice operations and building preparations for all events at Rogers Arena. The incumbent will make recommendations for new systems, additions, repairs, and replacements and will ensure that health and safety requirements are met. The Manager, Plant Operations is also responsible for supervising five full-time Building Operators and contracted services as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned as required)
-Overall responsibility for ice installation, maintenance, and removal -Schedule and follow up on preventative maintenance tasks for mechanical, refrigeration, and other operational equipment within the building -Complete of reports relating to ice quality, mechanical, and refrigeration operation -Represent the Engineering department as Building Operations Management during events -Initiate, develop, and implement programs and systems relating to facility and equipment maintenance, including preventative maintenance and management -Manage the annual budget for specific operating systems as assigned (i.e. HVAC, refrigeration plant) -Monitor and evaluate revenue and expenditures status on an on-going basis, preparing budget summaries and analysis as required -Manage the Building Operators in a pro-active and professional manner, striving for 100% employee satisfaction -Provide input to the capital budgeting process -Provide input in developing Department Operating Procedures Manual and ensure procedures are adhered to within department -Liaise with Game Operations Department to ensure event requirements are supported -Back-ups peers (Supervisor, Conversions and Supervisor, Facility Maintenance) for vacation and other relief
At least 10 years of experience in ice maintenance and related ice-making equipment operations
At least five years of experience in a supervisory role at a multi-purpose facility.
Must possess a Fourth Class Power Engineering Certificate and a Refrigeration Operator Certificate
Successful completion of Grade 12
Completion of formal training including pressure vessels and refrigeration
Completion of administration and/or management training or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred
Experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a physical plant of comparable size and complexity in a computerized control environment
Strong and proactive supervisory skills in a unionized environment
Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety practices associated with the area of facility maintenance and operations
Strong administrative and computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office
Outstanding time management skills including the ability to prioritize clients, projects, and resources
